Embed Amazon QuickSight public dashboards into Microsoft teams

Microsoft Teams is a widely used collaboration platform that can be integrated with AWS services, allowing organizations to leverage the scalability, security, and global infrastructure provided by AWS. Customers often integrate business metrics, alerting and monitoring systems with Microsoft Teams for ease of use and a central place to track information.
In this post we will understand how we can embed public Amazon QuickSight dashboards into Microsoft teams using the website plugin. You will learn how to enable public access for dashboards and use it to embed the dashboard into Microsoft Teams.

Pre-requisites

1. Access to Amazon QuickSight, with permissions to enable public access for dashboards.
2. Access to Microsoft teams to add website tab to a team.
3. IMPORTANT: You have the required security approvals from your internal teams to make this dashboard public.

Step 1 - Enable public dashboards in QuickSight domain

1. Click on the user logo on top right of your QuickSight console and click “Manage QuickSight”

2. Go to “Security and Permissions” → Click on “Public access to dashboards” Manage button and enable public access. With this, you have enabled public access to those dashboards that you choose to make public.

Step 2 - Make the dashboard public

We are going to use an existing “Social and Web media” sample dashboard to make public. This can be done on any existing dashboard you have.

1. Go to QuickSight main menu and click on the dashboard you want to share.

2. Once in the dashboard, click the share button.

3. Copy the link to the shared dashboard

Step 3 - Embed this into Microsoft teams

1. Open Microsoft teams and navigate to the team you want to add the Amazon QuickSight dashboard to.

2. Paste the URL you copied from Step 2 into the website and save.

3. The dashboard will now be rendered in the tab
