This article explains how to cancel your Amazon Q Developer Pro subscription to stop future billing charges. If you're unable to find the unsubscribe option in the Amazon Q Developer console, this guide walks you through the required prerequisites and step-by-step cancellation process.

Problem

You have an active Amazon Q Developer Pro subscription and want to cancel it, but the Subscriptions page or Unsubscribe button is not visible in the Amazon Q Developer console.

Cause

The unsubscribe workflow requires an active Kiro Profile in the same AWS account and region where the subscription was originally created. Without this profile, the Subscriptions page and unsubscribe option are not accessible in the Amazon Q Developer console.

Solution

Step 1: Create a Kiro Profile (if you don't already have one)

  1. Sign in to the AWS Management Console.

  2. Create a Kiro Profile in the US East (N. Virginia) Region (us-east-1) by following the Kiro onboarding quickstart.

Note: You only need to create the Kiro Profile itself. You do not need to create any subscriptions or enable additional services within Kiro.

If you already have a Kiro Profile but not an Amazon Q Developer Profile, navigate to SettingsOther applicationsEnable.

Step 2: Unsubscribe from Amazon Q Developer Pro

  1. Navigate to the Amazon Q Developer console.
  2. In the left navigation panel, choose Subscriptions.
  3. In the Builder ID users section, select the subscription.
  4. Choose Unsubscribe.
  5. Confirm the cancellation when prompted.

Important Information

  • After unsubscribing, the Pro subscription remains active until the end of the current billing cycle. No further charges will be incurred beyond that period.
  • You will revert to the Amazon Q Developer Free Tier after the current billing period ends.
  • Deleting your Builder ID does not cancel your subscription — you must actively unsubscribe using the steps above.
  • Creating a Kiro Profile is free and only required to access the subscription management page.
