Announce compression support in the ODBC and JDBC drivers

Amazon Redshift now supports result set compression in its JDBC and ODBC drivers which can improve the performance of queries that return a large amount of data by compressing query results before sending them over the network. Compression reduces the total amount of data transferred without losing information. While performance impact varies based on compression ratio and network bandwidth, we recommend customers try enabling compression, particularly on networks with limited bandwidth.

We recommend that all customers upgrade to the latest driver version. Upgrading provides access to new features and improves security and performance. For installation instructions, please see the documentation for the Amazon JDBC driver and Amazon ODBC driver.

To enable compression on the JDBC Driver, please visit our JDBC driver documentation. To enable compression on the ODBC Driver, please visit our documentation.
