As someone focused on FinOps and cost optimization, I'm always excited to highlight new capabilities that help customers manage and optimize their cloud spending. Here are the standout announcements from this year's event.

Now that the dust has settled from re:Invent, I've had time to explore some of the announcements beyond the main keynote highlights. While the big launches rightfully captured attention, several cost management and cloud financial management features deserve recognition.

As someone focused on FinOps and cost optimization, I'm always excited to highlight new capabilities that help customers manage and optimize their cloud spending. Here are the standout announcements from this year's event.

Multi-Payer Account Management

Multi-Source Custom Billing Views addresses a common challenge for organizations with multiple business units or payer accounts. Instead of logging into each payer account separately to manage and reconcile billing data, you can now centralize your billing view into a single payer account by inviting other payer accounts into your organization. This consolidation significantly simplifies billing visibility and management.

AWS Billing Transfer complements this capability by centralizing payment management across all your organizations. Whether you're a smaller organization with multiple business units, a large enterprise, or even a reseller, this feature eliminates the need for FinOps teams to access each management account individually to pay bills.

Simplified Cost Visibility

Not every organization needs the full power of Cloud Intelligence Dashboards (CID). While CID is excellent and I work with customers on it regularly, smaller organizations may not need that level of investment to gain better cost visibility.

Billing Cost Management Dashboards now provide a simpler alternative directly within the AWS console. You can create custom dashboards with predefined or customized widgets to gain granular cost visibility without deploying a comprehensive solution like CID. The interface makes it easy to build a personalized view for daily cost monitoring across your AWS accounts.

Cost Efficiency Metrics

Understanding cloud efficiency can be challenging when costs span multiple dimensions. While mature FinOps organizations can develop unit metrics tied to cost of goods sold, not every organization has reached that maturity level.

The Cost Efficiency Score provides a single, clear metric to understand your cloud spend optimization. Available directly in the Cost Optimization Hub, this score is calculated as: (1 - potential savings / total optimizable spend) × 100%. Based on 30-day spend and current savings opportunities, it updates continuously and can be viewed by account and region. This metric offers an excellent starting point for FinOps conversations with stakeholders.

AI-Powered Cost Management

The Billing and Cost Management MCP Server leverages generative AI to improve cloud financial decision-making. This server connects to real-time data sources including Cost Optimization Hub, Compute Optimizer, Savings Plans, Budgets, S3 Storage Lens, and Cost Anomaly Detection. You can ask complex cost and optimization questions using natural language, and the MCP server analyzes all these sources to provide actionable insights.

For maximum value, integrate this MCP server with Kiro. Using steering documents, you can guide how it responds to queries about cost efficiency opportunities. Setup is straightforward across any operating system, and the insights can inform your custom dashboard designs in Billing Cost Management Dashboards or guide visual development in Quick Suite with CID.

Kiro

Speaking of Kiro, the new Superpowers feature makes it even easier to add functionality to your development environment and enable efficient team collaboration. Even if you're not a developer, Kiro excels at integrating natural language queries, MCP servers, and agentic AI into daily workflows. It has become my essential tool for nearly everything I do—and it's worth exploring regardless of your technical background.

Learning Resources

The Skill Builder team has released a re:Invent 2025 Skills Course that covers the new launches and innovations from this year's event. It's an excellent way to quickly get up to speed on these new capabilities and learn how to implement them effectively.

What cost management features are you most excited to explore? I'd love to hear which announcements resonate with your organization's needs.
