How do I modify the running mode of my WorkSpace?

Resolution

Amazon WorkSpaces can be billed by the month or by the hour, depending on the running mode that you choose. You initially specify the running mode when you launch a new Workspace. To be billed monthly, leave the running mode as AlwaysOn when you launch the WorkSpace. To be billed hourly, choose AutoStop.

To change the running mode after a WorkSpace is launched, follow the directions in Modify the running mode. By default, only system administrators can modify the running mode. However, other users can perform this task if they have the relevant permissions to manage Workspaces. Follow the directions in Switching running mode for a WorkSpace, based on your client version.

Note: If you update the running mode of a WorkSpace from AutoStop to AlwaysOn, then that update might cause an overlap in billing between the two models. If you plan to transition from AutoStop to AlwaysOn, then it's a best practice to make the change near the end of a month.
