Hi,
I am trying to recall what happens to me when I buy them, but my case does not cover all the options (no upfront payment 1, year commitment).
Then I recalled Q, and here is what I got (it aligns with my above case):
When you purchase a Reserved Instance on AWS, the purchase is billed immediately by default. Here are some key details:
For one-time fees like purchasing an EC2 Reserved Instance, you are charged upfront immediately after purchase.
Your default payment method is charged between the 3rd and 5th day of every month for ongoing monthly usage and recurring fees from the previous month.
Alternatively, you can queue Reserved Instance purchases for a future date up to 3 years in advance. On the scheduled date, the purchase will be made using your default payment method and the billing benefit applied once payment succeeds.
It depends on the payment option selected at the moment of the purchase, if all upfront or partial upfront is selected then you will be billed at the moment of the purchase. If no upfront is selected, then you will start being charged at the end of the month.
Thanks Victor.
