Hi Maribelle,
The user you are using will need a policy attached that can do the backup. Depending on how you are preforming the backup the policy and the actions needed are different.
If you are using the AWS Backup service have a look at the following documentation: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/aws-backup/latest/devguide/iam-service-roles.html
If you are doing a snapshot of your EC2 attached EBS, have a look at the following documentation: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/ebs/latest/userguide/snapshot-archiving-iam.html
