Following up on the original question.
I would like to drill down a little further to make sure I understand the available APIs.
I have read that there is a specific API that supports sending and verifying OTPs, but the documentation states that it only works over SMS messages. It is explained in the chapter entitled "Sending and validating One-Time Passwords (OTPs)" of the Amazon Pinpoint Developers Guide (page 140 of the version I am looking at).
So, my understanding is: there is a "native" OTP API available, but that is limited to SMS. However, it is possible to use Amazon Pinpoint to send OTPs over email, but it would require a little more effort from the Developer's point of view (compared to SMS) as there is no "native" API that supports sending and verify OTPs over email.
Is my understanding correct? thanks a lot.
Yes, Amazon Pinpoint supports sending One-Time Passwords (OTPs) via email as a delivery method.
When configuring a Pinpoint campaign, you can choose to use email as a channel for sending OTPs. You can also customize the email content and design, as well as the frequency and timing of the messages.
To use email as an OTP delivery method, you will need to verify your email domain or use Amazon SES (Simple Email Service) to send emails on your behalf. Additionally, you will need to configure your email templates to include the OTP and any other relevant information, such as instructions for how to use the OTP.
Overall, Pinpoint's support for sending OTPs via email can be a convenient and secure way to deliver one-time codes to your users for authentication or other purposes.
Pinpoint only supports SMS for OTP messages as we speak. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/pinpoint/latest/developerguide/send-validate-otp.html#send-validate-otp-sending

Your understanding is correct. Currently, only SMS messages are supported, so the only acceptable value is SMS.
