How do I perform a failover in my Aurora global database?

I want to know how to perform a failover in my Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible Edition or Amazon Aurora MySQL-Compatible Edition global database.

Resolution

There are three ways to perform a failover for an Aurora PostgreSQL-Compatible or Aurora MySQL-Compatible global database. You can perform a managed failover, switchover, or manual failover.

Managed Failover

Follow these instructions to perform a managed failover.

It's a best practice to perform a managed failover for disaster recovery. When you use this method, your primary cluster is failed over to your secondary AWS Region.

For more information, see Performing managed failovers for Aurora global databases.

Switchover

Follow these instructions to perform a switchover.

Use the switchover method for controlled scenarios, such as operational maintenance and other planned operational procedures.

For more information, see Performing switchovers for Amazon Aurora global databases.

Manual Failover

To perform a manual failover, see Performing manual failovers for Aurora global databases.

When a managed failover isn't an option, use a manual failover.
