How can I restore a previous version of an Amazon S3 object in AWS Backup?

I want to restore a previous version of an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) object in AWS Backup.

Resolution

To restore a specific version of an object, you must find the backup where the object version you want to restore is the latest version. This is because AWS Backup restores the latest version of the object in the Amazon S3 bucket at the backup's creation time.

For continuous backup, you must identify the date and time when the object version you want to restore is the latest version of the backup. To perform an object level restore, see Use the AWS Backup console to restore Amazon S3 recovery points.

For a snapshot backup, you must identify the recovery point where the object version you want to restore is present as the latest version. After identifying the recovery point, use the recovery point ID to perform an item level restore.

Note: If you restore to a bucket where the latest version of the object is already present, then AWS Backup won't restore the previous version of your object. It's a best practice to restore the backup to a newly created bucket to avoid having the latest version present in the destination bucket.
