How do I change the email address that's associated with my AWS account?
I want to change the email address that's associated with my AWS account root user.
Resolution
To update the email address for your account's root user, first check if your account uses AWS Organizations.
Important: You can't update the root user email address to one that's already in use in another Amazon.com or AWS account. It's a best practice to use a group email address for root user credentials.
If your Amazon.com retail and AWS accounts share the same login information, then the email address for one account also changes when you update the other account.
Accounts that use AWS Organizations
For accounts that are part of an organization, use the Organizations console to update the root user email address.

Accounts that don't use AWS Organizations
You must sign in as the account's current root user to change the root user email.

How are we suppose to sperate our AWS root account from our Amazon.com account if the following applies? Important: If your Amazon.com retail and AWS accounts share the same log-in information, then updating the email address for one account also changes the other account.

For accounts that are linked to an Organization; The Organization administrators can update the e-mail address on linked accounts (as of June 2024) explained in https://docs.aws.amazon.com/organizations/latest/userguide/orgs_manage_accounts_update_primary_email.html
"Note: You can't use an email address that's already in use on another Amazon.com or AWS account." So, how to update an organization's email account when the new account owner already has an AWS account?

The inability to decouple an Amazon retail account from an AWS root account is a severe security and architectural anti-pattern. This legacy limitation violates the principle of Separation of Concerns by entangling personal and corporate credentials. It drastically increases the blast radius, as any vulnerability in everyday e-commerce usage directly compromises the underlying cloud infrastructure. Furthermore, it breaks identity governance—which is essential for SOC 2 and ISO 27001 compliance—by stripping the organization of exclusive access control. Conditionally tying the separation of these accounts to the permanent deletion of a user's personal retail history is an unacceptable barrier. It makes it blatantly clear that whoever made this internal design decision at AWS/Amazon took an unprecedented technical shortcut, completely disregarding the boundaries between personal consumer data and enterprise cloud security.
