How do I convert my existing Regional EFS file system to a One Zone EFS file system?

Resolution

Use a Regional file system for workloads that require high levels of durability and availability. However, if your on-premises data don't require Regional file system resilience, then convert your file system to One Zone.

You can use a One Zone file system for workloads such as development, build, and staging environments. You can also use One Zone file systems for analytics, simulation, media transcoding, and backups.

Convert your EFS file system from Regional to One Zone

To convert your existing Regional file system to a One Zone file system, you must migrate your data.

To migrate your data, use one of the following methods:

• Create a replication configuration to replicate your Regional file system to an existing One Zone file system or to a new One Zone file system. For more information, see Replicating EFS file systems.
• Create a new One Zone file system. Then, copy the data from the existing EFS volumes. For more information, see Configuring AWS DataSync transfers with Amazon EFS.
• Use AWS Backup to restore the entire file system to a One Zone file system type. For more information, see How do I back up and restore my Amazon EFS file system?
