I tried to sign in, but the credentials that I used didn't work. Or, I don't have the credentials to access an AWS root user account.
Resolution
Important: AWS Support can't discuss details of your AWS account and can't modify account credentials under any circumstances.
Common account access issues
- You lost root user access and the previous administrator is unreachable
- Forgotten passwords or unknown email addresses
- Incorrect login credentials (for example, wrong account or AWS Identity and Access Management [IAM] identity)
- An authorized user changed IAM credentials
Root user recovery
To recover root user information, you must have the email address and password associated with the account.
If you don't know the credentials, then take the following actions:
Password recovery
You must have the following information for password recovery:
- Known email address or account number
- Access to the associated email address
For instructions, see How do I recover a lost or forgotten AWS password?
Find your account email address
If you can't find the email address associated with your account, then take the following actions:
- Search your email accounts for messages from no-reply-aws@amazon.com. The recipient is likely your account email address.
- Contact the team members, organization, or family who might have created the account.
IAM credentials recovery
For IAM users, take the following actions:
If you have root access to the account but don't know the password for a particular IAM user, then sign in as the root user. Then, change the password. For more information, see Troubleshooting AWS account sign-in issues.
Get account support
If the previous methods don't work and you still can't access your account, then contact AWS Support through the AWS Support form.
