I want to see cost allocation tags in the AWS Cost Explorer.

Short description

You must activate cost allocation tags for them to appear in the billing reports.

Cost allocation tags track your AWS costs on a detailed level. After you activate the cost allocation tags, AWS uses them to organize your resource costs on your cost allocation report.

AWS provides AWS generated tags and user-defined tags cost allocation tags.

Resolution

Important: Create and apply the user-defined tags to your resources. Note that it can take up to 24 hours for the tag keys to appear on your cost allocation tags page for activation. It can then take up to another 24 hours for tag keys to activate. AWS generated cost allocation tags can take 24 hours for tags to activate.

Activate your cost allocation tags

Complete the following:

Some common reasons why tags don't appear in billing reports

  • Your tagged resources must incur charges before Cost Explorer shows costs for the associated cost allocation tag.
  • Cost Explorer doesn't support AWS Organizations resources tags.
  • If you're a member account in an AWS Organizations organization and you can't access Cost Explorer, then contact your management account to grant member accounts access.
  • If you're a member account in one organization and your account moves to another organization as a member, then your active tags deactivate. Your new management account must reactivate them. It can take up to 24 hours for the tag keys to appear on the management account's cost allocation tags page for activation.
