How do I subscribe to Microsoft Office license through AWS with BYOL Amazon WorkSpaces?

2 minute read

I want to add or subscribe to Microsoft Office license through AWS with Bring Your Own License (BYOL) Amazon WorkSpaces.

Before you begin, be sure that the following prerequisites are met:

To add Microsoft Office to Workspaces, use one of the following methods:

  • Add Microsoft Office when you create the BYOL image for deploying WorkSpaces. If you use Windows 10, then you can subscribe to Microsoft Office Professional 2016 (32-bit) or 2019 (64-bit) through AWS. If you choose this option, then Microsoft Office is preinstalled in your BYOL image. It's included on any WorkSpaces that you launch from this image. Use the new BYOL image to deploy WorkSpaces. For more information, see Add Microsoft Office to your BYOL image.
  • Add Microsoft Office to the existing BYOL WorkSpaces. First, create a BYOL bundle that's subscribed to Microsoft Office. Then, use the WorkSpaces migration feature to migrate your current BYOL WorkSpaces with this BYOL bundle.
  • Upgrade your Microsoft Office package. Upgrade your Microsoft Office package, and then create a BYOL image with the required Office version. Use the WorkSpaces migration feature to migrate your BYOL WorkSpaces with the BYOL WorkSpaces bundle.

Note: Amazon WorkSpaces allows you to bring your own Microsoft 365 licenses if they meet Microsoft's requirements. For more information, see Microsoft 365 Bring Your Own License (BYOL).

if you are using O365 service, then just login into your webmail using browser in the workspace instance and download the office app. Run it, intall it. Open any office app like excel, ppt, word etc then It would prompt for login name and password. Enter your O365 email id and password. you are done.
