AWS Trusted Advisor currently does not offer specific checks for under-utilized EC2 Dedicated Hosts. Trusted Advisor focuses on optimizing Reserved Instances (RIs) and doesn't extend to dedicated hosts.

A few ways you can monitor and report on your Dedicated Host usage:

1/ AWS License Manager: This service allows you to manage your software licenses, including tracking the utilization of your Dedicated Hosts. You can use License Manager to get visibility into the sockets and physical cores being used on your Dedicated Hosts.

2/ Next option is AWS config .

3/ Custom Setup : You can build your own custom reporting solution using AWS CloudWatch metrics and alarms to monitor Dedicated Host utilization. This would require more setup, but would give you full flexibility in how you analyze and report on your Dedicated Host usage.

  • I understand how this can be done with Cloudwatch, would like to know more about how can you implement this using AWS Config or License Manager
