Is database migration cloud, desktop or both?

The Amazon DMS documentation talks about downloading the Windows or Linux based migration tool. But there is also an online cloud based DMS thing "migration projects", which supposedly you setup and do database migration. It seems like there are two options for doing it, on the desktop and in the cloud... however the documentation doesn't cover the cloud based one, and for me at least it fails with no discernable error message. So unsure how to proceed.

The [AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)](https://aws.amazon.com/dms/) is a managed service (cloud) that allows you to migrate your on-premise or RDS database to an Amazon database.
It doesn't require drivers or configuration changes in your database.

You can walk through these to get a better sense of how to use DMS to migrate your database to an Amazon database.
