Get customer input of a UK Currency amount

I am using AWS Connect to capture an amount in UK currency (Pounds and pence). I want to capture and interpret what the customer says. I think I need a Lex Bot with a slot enabled, but how do I get Lex to interpret and store "[pounds] pounds and [pence] pence" as a [pounds].[pence]?
