Launch of Nigeria Local Zone for Amazon GameLift
Hello GameLift Devs,
Today, the Amazon GameLift team is excited to announce that Amazon GameLift now supports the AWS Nigeria region Local Zone. With today’s launch, we expand GameLift’s coverage in Africa. Game developers can tap into the Nigeria Local Zone to reach players across the continent of Africa, providing seamless, low-latency gameplay experiences for players. AWS Local Zones are a type of infrastructure deployment that extends AWS Regions to place compute, storage, database, and other AWS services at the edge of the cloud near large population, industry, and information technology (IT) centers—enabling developers to deploy games that require single-digit millisecond latency closer to end users or on-premises data centers. With the latest update developers can now:
- Deploy your game to a Nigeria Local Zone Fleet location.
- Update a queue with a Fleet location in the Nigeria Local Zone.
- Match players into games sessions in Nigeria Local Zone locations.
We know that in multiplayer games, players expect low wait times into matches along with smooth gameplay experiences, no matter where they are playing in the world. To achieve a seamless player experience in your game, players need to be placed to the closest region in which they are playing. With this launch, players can be placed even closer for the most demanding games that require single-digit millisecond latency.
