Hi Ashish!
S3 URI is the unique resource identifier within the context of the S3 protocol. They follow this naming convention : S3://bucket-name/key-name
For example , if you have a bucket named mybucket and a file called puppy.jpg within it. The S3 URI would appear as - **S3://mybucket/puppy.jpg **
In terms of uses, it is used when interfacing with AWS Restful APIs or more commonly AWS SDK to access specified S3 bucket/object.
For example, to upload the file c:\sync\logs\log1.xml to the root of the vincent-test-bucket bucket, you can use the AWS CLI command below.
aws s3 cp c:\sync\logs\log1.xml s3://vincent-test-bucket/
Regards to your second question, you are right, it is the universal unique location of the s3 object. When you store objects using S3 standard tier , multiple copies of the object will be stored within multiple AZs across the region where the bucket is created. This URI endpoint serves a single point of access to your object with it's replication across the multiple AZ. Any changes made to it will be persisted across all it's copies.
For more detailed documentatiion on S3 URI, you can reference this link
Cheers.
