Anyone else also thinks AWS documentation is full of fluff and makes finding useful information difficult ?

Im trying to understand how Datazone can improve my security and I just cant seem to make sense of the data that is there. It looks like nothing more than a bunch of predefined IAM roles. So why cant it just say that.

Like this I have been very frustrated very often. What about you ?

Also which CSP do you think does a better job ?

I understand your frustration with AWS documentation. While AWS strives to provide comprehensive information, the documentation can sometimes be dense and challenging to navigate. Regarding Amazon DataZone's security features, you're correct that it does involve predefined IAM roles, but there's more to it than just that.

Amazon DataZone's security approach is based on the shared responsibility model, which is a fundamental concept in AWS security. It provides several predefined IAM roles that are designed to manage access and permissions for various DataZone components and related AWS services. These roles are created to simplify the process of setting up secure access patterns for data management across your organization.

However, DataZone's security features go beyond just IAM roles. It integrates with other AWS security services and provides features like:

  1. Data protection through encryption
  2. Access control and authorization mechanisms
  3. Compliance validation support
  4. Security best practices implementation
  5. Resilience and infrastructure security measures
  6. Confused deputy prevention
  7. Configuration and vulnerability analysis capabilities

While the documentation might not present this information in the most straightforward manner, these features are designed to enhance your overall data security posture.

Regarding your question about which Cloud Service Provider (CSP) does a better job with documentation, it's a subjective matter and can vary depending on individual preferences and specific use cases. Each major CSP (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform) has its strengths and weaknesses in terms of documentation and user experience. Some users find Microsoft Azure's documentation more user-friendly, while others prefer Google Cloud Platform's approach. It often comes down to personal preference and familiarity with the platform.

If you're consistently finding AWS documentation challenging, it might be worth exploring alternative resources such as AWS training courses, third-party tutorials, or community forums where information is often presented in more digestible formats. Additionally, providing feedback to AWS about your documentation experience can help them improve it for future users.

AWS Documentation, like all technical documentation, has it's strength's and weaknesses. A weakness is the large amount you are presented with when first looking. A strength is that the documentation is very consistent between services, which allows you to easily find information about a service one you are familiar with the information architecture. I would say other CSPs have the same strengths and weaknesses.
