Unable to transfer IDN ".online" domain to AWS Route 53

0

Dear Forum,

I have some ".online" domains with German umlauts that I would like to transfer to AWS Route 53. According to the TLD list IDNs are supported for ".online": https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/registrar-tld-list.html#online

However, neither the regular process nor the bulk order process let me order those domains. In the regular process .online is removed from the choices as soon as a domain name with umlauts is entered. And the bulk process runs into some "unspecified error" with the domain names in IDN notation.

I have successfully transferred non-IDN ".online" domains, though.

How do I transfer a domain like "exämple.online" to AWS Route 53?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Dirk,

We tested and successfully registered a test domain that includes umlauted a's. Note that you need to convert the domain name to Punycode:

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/DomainNameFormat.html#domain-name-format-idns

Hi Scott,
do you already have some news on this issue? Can you recommend a work-around, e.g. using some API?
Thank you!

Thank you very much, Scott!

I was able to start the transfer now by entering the Punycode version of the domain name.
