InfluxDB V2 Availability Timeline

0

Does AWS have a plan for the medium-long term availability of InfluxDB V2 as their "Timestream for InfluxDB" offering?

Is there a plan to offer V3? What might the pricing structure look like for that? If so, will there be migration options from existing V2 databases?

We're looking at migrating to Timestream for InfluxDB and it's difficult to commit to a managed offering based on a technology that already seems like it is being phased-out.

Cloud-hosted V3 pricing from InfluxData is much less appealing, so I would hate to be told V2 instances are being deprecated within a year of setting them up, only to be forced into pricing similar to that offered directly by InfluxData.

AWS has formed a strategic partnership with InfluxData (the creator of InfluxDB) to provide long-term commitment and technical collaboration for AWS customers using Timestream for InfluxDB. This partnership includes support for both the current version (2.7) and upcoming versions (3.x) of InfluxDB in the service.

AWS is indeed planning to offer InfluxDB 3 as part of their managed Timestream for InfluxDB service. They are actively collaborating with InfluxData to make InfluxDB 3 available, which is designed for high performance and scalability, particularly for real-time analytics and observability use cases.

Regarding migration options, AWS is developing migration tools to automate the process of moving from one version to another, with the goal of minimizing disruption to operations. Customers can currently migrate to InfluxDB 2.7, with new versions becoming available in the future.

As for the pricing structure for InfluxDB 3, specific details haven't been announced yet. The current pricing model for Timestream for InfluxDB is based on DB instance hours, storage, and data transfer. You can find detailed pricing information on the AWS Timestream pricing page.

Given AWS's strategic partnership with InfluxData and their commitment to supporting both current and future versions of InfluxDB, Timestream for InfluxDB appears to be a service AWS is investing in for the long term, especially as they're transitioning customers away from Timestream for LiveAnalytics (which will no longer be open to new customers starting June 20, 2025).
