Can S3 Transfer Acceleration work with SFTP transfer supported by AWS Transfer Family?

0

I need to offer accelerated file transfer solution for clients across two different countries with access control for sharing large (>200GB) files. I'm thinking of setting up SFTP server backed by S3 via AWS Transfer Family. Can it leverage acceleration capability offered by S3 Transfer Acceleration? I noticed someone said no on some public forum and we have to use Global Accelerator instead to accelerate SFTP transfer, but I failed to find the relevant information in AWS documentation to confirm this. Thanks.

Hi, S3 Transfer Acceleration is not currently supported with Transfer Family SFTP. To best identify viable options, it would be helpful to learn more about your use case and your motivation/reason for using SFTP. Also, can you share more about any latency you're experiencing today and what your expected/desired performance would be? Feel free to reach out directly to yoonmsuh@amazon.com to discuss further. Thanks!

Hi,

Please, read https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/transfer-acceleration.html

Amazon S3 Transfer Acceleration is a bucket-level feature that enables fast, easy, and
secure transfers of files over long distances between your client and an S3 bucket.
Transfer Acceleration is designed to optimize transfer speeds from across the world into
S3 buckets. Transfer Acceleration takes advantage of the globally distributed edge locations
in Amazon CloudFront. As the data arrives at an edge location, the data is routed to Amazon S3 over an
optimized network path.

It is the solution to accelerate your SFTP transfers.

Best,

Didier
