When Aurora MySQL minor version 3.07 reaches its end of standard support on August 31, 2025, you won't be charged additional fees like those associated with Extended Support for major versions. However, after a minor version reaches its end of standard support, Amazon RDS will automatically upgrade your database to the default minor version or a later version during a scheduled maintenance window.
The automatic upgrade is part of Amazon's standard process for minor versions that have reached end of support. Unlike major versions (like Aurora MySQL 2.x which reaches end of standard support on October 31, 2024), minor versions don't incur Extended Support charges.
After a minor version reaches end of standard support, no further patch versions will be released for that minor version. This means you won't receive critical bug fixes or security patches (CVEs) unless you upgrade to a supported minor version.
Regarding the impact of upgrading from 3.07 to 3.10, since both are within the same major version (Aurora MySQL 3.x), the upgrade should be less disruptive than a major version upgrade. However, it's still recommended to thoroughly test your applications with the new version before upgrading your production environment. Minor version upgrades can introduce new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes that might affect your application's behavior, though typically to a lesser extent than major version upgrades.
