AWS Builder ID and the AWS Management Console serve different purposes and are designed for distinct use cases. An AWS Builder ID is a personal profile that represents you as an individual and allows you to access specific AWS tools and services without requiring an AWS account. It's particularly useful for personal projects and learning, giving you access to services like Amazon Q Developer in your IDE or command line, AWS Training and Certification, and other select tools. Importantly, an AWS Builder ID does not provide access to the AWS Management Console and cannot be assigned IAM roles or permissions.
The AWS Management Console, on the other hand, is the web-based interface where you manage AWS resources and services within an AWS account. To access the Management Console, you need to sign in as a root user, IAM user, or IAM Identity Center user—all of which are associated with an AWS account that serves as a resource container with billing and payment information.
In summary, AWS Builder ID is a personal credential for accessing specific AWS tools without an account, while the AWS Management Console is the primary interface for managing resources within an AWS account. They are separate systems: having a Builder ID doesn't grant you access to the Management Console, and signing into the Console requires different credentials tied to an actual AWS account.
