How do I receive emails sent to aliases in WorkMail?

0

I'm super new to AWS, but I've been trying to set up a basic organization for myself, in attempt to have something for professional correspondence that's not Gmail. I've registered multiple domains in Route 53, set up records in hosted zones as needed from creating an organization with WorkMail and with certificates. Everything seems to work fine with my user email for the default domain. I can send emails out from the default email domain and aliases with other verified domains, and I've confirmed that they make it to their destination. I can only receive emails to the default email domain address. Any emails sent to aliases do not land in my WorkMail.

I've done a lot of searching on the old AWS forums and I wasn't able to find anything regarding this issue in re:Post. I found issues where people weren't receiving email at all, but I know that I at least have some of the MX records correct since I can receive emails.

I can continue to use just the default domain, but I'd like to be able to use the aliases as well. Is there something within my AWS Organization/Route 53 that's not set up correctly?

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing problems with receiving mail on your aliases. Some easy things you can verify to debug the problem are:

  • Check that the MX record for all your domains point to WorkMail
  • Ensure the alias is added to the user
  • Enable Message logging to see if the mails arrive: Message logging in Cloudwatch

Kind regards, Robin

  • Well the MX records for the alias domain look exactly like the MX record for the default domain that actually works.

The alias is added to the user.

If I'm looking at the data correctly, there is no log entry of it hitting WorkMail in the organization sending to the alias.

    Anymore suggestions, Robin?

  • Hi, sorry for the late response. I did not get a notification for this.

If there is no record of a received message for the alias in the message logs something prevented it from reaching WorkMail. Do you have any other Inbound rules configured in the SES console for the alias domain?

    Kind regards, Robin
