Domain transfer-out in limbo

0

Hi All, This evening I transferred the a .co.uk domain from AWS Route53 (GANDI) to Shopify (TUCOWS) using an IPS Tag provided by Shopify support 'TUCOWS-CA'. After the transfer had completed successfully it then transpired that Shopify does not support .co.uk domains, and was no longer able to help; however the domain had already transferred out from my Route53, so I have lost ownership/control of it. Shopify don't seem to understand and are unable to help further.

I requested a transfer in (back to Route53), but without the IPS Tag being set to 'GANDI' this has failed, leaving the domain in limbo.

Does anybody know how to regain ownership, either by reversing the transfer out, or by setting the IPS Tag to 'GANDI' so I can transfer it back to AWS Route53? I have emailed both Nominet and Tucows to see if they can help, but wondered if anyone else had hit this issue before.

Thanks for your help.

  • AWS have advised that they cannot help. I have support requests out with Tucows and Nominet, but no responses yet.

For anyone in this position in the future, the answer was Nominet - register with them, and then you can see all of your domains (including the one that got away). Then by contacting Nominet support through the portal they were able to revert the IPS Tag to GANDI (without charge), and then I was able to 'transfer in' to Route53 and re-create the configuration.

That’s very Interesting because if I go to shoplify website and chose to register a domain name, it allows me to buy a .Co.uk domain name

Tucows certainly does support .Co.uk

  • It was mixed messages from Shopify, they gave the Tucows IPS Tag, and then said that they were then not able to import it in to their console and then went away to check before confirming that their systems currently don't support it... by then it had already left Route53.

  • I recommend you speak to shopify again and escalate it. I don’t think it will come back imho

Hi Lucky, Although the message may have stated "successfully transferred" Domain Left AWS Route53, your domain ownership has not 100% settled, fully transacted and the ownership should default back to originator within a the grace period.

  • Still nothing. Do you know the duration of the grace period?
