CloudWatch how to disable metrics?

0

Hi,

I use CloudWatch only to display up to 10 metrics on dashboard. However, this month I discovered that they started charging me for it.

In my billing I've got
$0.30 per metric-month for the first 10,000 metrics - EU (Frankfurt) 1.348 Metric

but I use only like below 10 (which is free). My guess is that DynamoDB consumes metrics. How can I disable them or even if it's possible I could disable whole CloudWatch.

Hi Wojciech,

From the information you shared I think you are using Cloudwatch Dashboard to view some top Cloudwatch metrics (10 Metrics in your case) as per your requirement and you are being charged for it.

So you are right here if you will use Cloudwatch Dashboard then you will ve charged as per below pricing model because we charge for Dashboard separately.

Amazon CloudWatch Dashboards

$3.00 per dashboard per month

$0.30 per metric-month for the first 10,000 metrics - EU (Frankfurt) 1.348 Metric

So this charge is for Custom Metrics not for AWS Provided Metrics. If you are using any custom metric then you would be charged as per below pricing model. However if you don't want to use any Custom Metric then there is no way to delete them however if you will stop pushing data points for continuous 14 days then that particular Metric would expire after 14 days and you won't be charge for that. AWS Provided metrics like CPU Utilization or Network In and Out for EC2 are free as they are Amazon Provided Metrics however if you will enable detailed monitoring then it will be charged as in detailed monitoring we push data points after every 1 min as compare to Standard Monitoring in which we push data points after every 5 min.

Amazon CloudWatch Custom Metrics

$0.30 per metric per month for the first 10,000 metrics

Also there is no way to disable Cloudwatch or any Metric but if you stop pushing data points then after 14 days it will automatically get expired and you won't be charged for it. Also you only charged for Custom Metrics not for AWS Provided Metrics.

Please find the link below for more details regarding pricing Model:

Please let me know if you have further query on same.
