Decrease/reduce Amazon FSx for OpenZFS storage capacity

0

I have a customer using Amazon FSx for OpenZFS and want to reduce their storage capacity.

According to AWS Documentation- You can only increase the amount of SSD storage capacity for a file system; you cannot decrease the storage capacity. Source- https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/OpenZFSGuide/managing-storage-capacity.html

Is there a way to decrease storage capacity for Amazon FSx for OpenZFS and/or alternative options to reduce the size with minimal impact/changes required?

No, ZFS does not allow for reducing pool sizes. To reduce the size, you would need to deploy a new FSx volume and copy the data or create the new volume from a snapshot. https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2022/02/amazon-fsx-openzfs-full-copy-volumes/

Hope this helps.
