Web Domain Route 53: Name change.

0

Hi, I bought and registered a domain a month or two ago. Other than that transaction I haven't touched it. No landing page, nada. I bought it and never looked back.

Is it possible for me to change the name of my website / domain? Or do I have to buy a new one.

I greatly appreciate your help; I know it's a basic question.

You'll have to register a new domain, you can't "edit" the name of the domain you've already registered.

The steps to relinquish the domain you've already registered are here https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/domain-delete.html

  • Thank you, Sir. I figured as much but when I looked over the page you linked me too earlier tonight. Something about it confused me then. Thanks again for your help clearing that up for me.

    Cheers

No, You can't change the name of the root domain. You might need to reconsider buying a new one

Additionally, consider setting up 301 redirects to ensure that any existing links to your website are redirected to the new domain name.
