Route 53 Charges

0

So I've been thinking of using Route 53 for redirecting my domains (DNS) so I thought I would go in and test 1 domain. Couldn't get it to resolve wildcard subdomains so I gave up until my system admin could look at it. Read: I didn't use your service yet I was charged $.50 for two days of having the host records for 1 domain. I think I actually redirected some traffic for a total of 1 hour, before I switched my server back to Cloudflare.

This doesn't seem right, and thank goodness I didn't import all 100 of my domain zone and actually operate them!

Questions:

  1. Is there a free tier for Route 53, much in the same way for Cloudflare? I'm looking for a Cloudflare altenative.
  2. Why aren't prices clearly posted for Route 53

We all don't have endless pockets, Amazon. Come on.

Here is the Route53 pricing page. for your reference https://aws.amazon.com/route53/pricing/

The reason you got charged $.50 because you created the hosted zone for more than 12 hours. It is mentioned clearly in the documentation .

"A hosted zone is charged at the time it's created and on the first day of each subsequent month. To allow testing, a hosted zone that is deleted within 12 hours of creation is not charged, however, any queries on that hosted zone will still incur charges"

Regarding your questions:

  1. Is there a free tier for Route 53, much in the same way for Cloudflare? I'm looking for a Cloudflare altenative. ------------- As per my knowledge and from the documentation, there is no free tier for Route53. You can find all the free tier services information on this page https://aws.amazon.com/free
  2. Why aren't prices clearly posted for Route 53 ------ I believe AWS has explained Route53 in great depth on Route53 pricing page https://aws.amazon.com/route53/pricing/

I am using AWS Route53 service for my customers and for my personal use. I never had issues with AWS Route53 services. AWS Route53 is very well integrated with other AWS services and provides lot of customization and configurations.

I hope this answers your query.
