Hello.
Since a timeout error is occurring, you should first check the settings around the EC2 network.
For example, is there a route to Internet Gateway configured in the route table for the subnet on which EC2 is running?
Also, do the inbound rules for the security group configured on the EC2 allow connections with the required protocols?

I apparently have a lot of homework to do, as a lot of this stuff is waaaaaay above my head. I was following a "step-by-step" tutorial that said it would work.... after 10 tries I'm banging my head against a wall.
Thanks for your help. I've gotten a good look behind the secenes.
