Billing waiver case unanswered for 28+ days — Case #*************** (created on June 2 2026)

-1

I'm a student who accidentally left an instance running for about a month, resulting in an unexpected ~$800 invoice. I opened a support case the same day I received the invoice, that is June 2 2026 (Case #***************) and have replied to the thread multiple times to repeatedly request support since, but have received no response in 28 days. I am a student and I can't cover this charge. I've already terminated the resources that caused the overage. I'm hoping someone can help escalate this case for review, ideally for a billing adjustment given the circumstances. Any guidance on how to get this moving would be really appreciated.

I understand how stressful an unexpected bill can be, especially as a student. Let me provide some guidance on how to move forward with your billing concern.

For billing adjustment requests, the best path is to continue working through the AWS Support Center at https://console.aws.amazon.com/support/. You can add additional correspondence to your existing case to provide any relevant context about the situation, such as confirming that you've terminated the resources and explaining your circumstances.

If you haven't already, consider reviewing your AWS Support plan. Different support tiers offer different response time commitments, and upgrading your plan (even temporarily) might help you get faster responses for urgent matters like billing concerns.

While waiting for a response, you can also explore AWS's billing tools to set up cost alerts and budgets to prevent similar situations in the future. AWS Budgets allows you to set custom cost thresholds that will notify you before charges accumulate.

Regarding billing adjustments specifically: AWS does evaluate requests on a case-by-case basis, considering factors like account history and circumstances. However, I cannot guarantee any particular outcome. The support team handling your case will be best positioned to review your specific situation and determine what options may be available.

Continue to use the Support Center to communicate about your case, and make sure all relevant information about your situation is included in your correspondence.

Hi, Thank you so much for your prompt response. I have updated a reply on this ticket since I saw a discrepancy in the billing and the credits I was provided by my university. It is my kind request to the support team to please review my updated response and help me out. Thank u!
