How to use Reserved Instances for Gamelift fleets

0

When reserved instances are purchased from EC2 > Reserved Instances, then I would guess that gamelift fleets can not use these instances? Is there a way to reserve instances to be used for gamelift fleets? My gamelift fleet has predictable usage and I would like to reserve instances for next 12 months and save costs.

Thanks!

You have a few options in Gamelift including Gamelift Spot which, if suitable for you, is likely to yield the best savings. Or Gamelift Anywhere allows you to use self-managed EC2 instances which you can cover with Reservations or Savings Plans. Savings Plans are definitely a better option than Reservations for compute resources - see https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/aws-savings-plans-reservations-perils-over-optimising-steve-kinsman/ for a discussion of trade-offs.

Hey! I'm returning to this old question after a long break.

We run gamelift and would like to benefit from savings plans or reserved instances. If I look at Billing and Cost Management Savings Plans > Recommendations then there are no recommendations. Whatever I choose from Compute Savings Plans or any other options, the current cost are shown as zero.

In cost explorer, most of the cost is listed as Gamelift. Is it possible to make savings there by committing to long term usage with predictable minimum usage amount?

Thank you!
