Let me follow up with the team. It may be a prioritization issue. I'll let you know.
Of course Linux support has a low priority and I really can understand that. But if the reason for the change in the FAQ is, that the priority of Linux support is even lower than before, I think it would be better to replace "Mac and Linux support is coming soon" with "Mac support is comming soon, followed by Linux support at a later time" instead of completely removing it.
Did you ever get an answer on this? I'd very much like to use lumberyard for some machine learning tasks as well as game development. If you ever get it running in linux, I'd love to give it a try - but adding a windows VM to my workflow is not something I'm interested in. For now, looks like Panda3D or Unity it is. :-(
A Linux editor isn't currently on the near-term horizon. We're currently prioritizing getting a MacOS client first as we have a lot of customer demand for this platform (especially iOS developers). Once we've gotten that out of the way, we'll take another look at overall customer interest for Linux editor.
Of course, we'll continue to support and improve Linux for Lumberyard dedicated servers.
It's unlikely that most macOS devs care about gaming more than us Linux... Well, maybe they are more willing to pay for AWS. But we Linux users don't use many things for free, we can pay too if we make profit...
I can definitely say that Linux support is not dropped. I can’t provide any timelines on when we’ll deliver full client and editor Linux support though.
