Timeline for Python upgrade in EMR - Boto3 support for python 3.7 is expiring.

0

In continuation to the ticket - https://repost.aws/questions/QUfxjbaGrXRTSKGy4-rnQ8Uw/how-to-upgrade-python-version-in-emr-since-python-3-7-support-discontinued , the latest version of EMR 6.14.0 using the depricated python version 3.7, and the boto 3 support for python 3.7 is expiring by 3rd Dec 2023. So do we have any specific time line from AWS Team for the upgrade of python inside EMR. This delay from AWS side is making us to do workaround to upgrade the python forcefully instead of using the EMR Latest version.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your query.

Here is my response below:

I would like to inform you that EMR Service Team is actively working on upgrading the python version in EMR. Unfortunately, as a Support Engineer, we don't have any visibility into the release team's product pipeline and enhancements. So, it is not possible for me to share any specific date for its implementation as of now.

As per this doc [1], the current EMR version is 6.15.0 where the python version supported is 2.7, 3.7.

In the meantime I would suggest you to upgrade python as you are currently doing as per the shared steps in the previous ticket [2].

I would strongly recommend you to keep an eye on this doc [3] for latest updates in EMR.

I hope you will find the above information useful.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any other queries related to this concern and I'll be glad to assist you further.

Stay safe and have a great day ahead!
