AWS Workspaces "Get Started" stuck in creation

0

I tried to use the AWS Workspaces Quick Start to create a personal workspace with the Graphics.g4dn bundle. Stuck after more than 12 hours

After waiting for a few hours, I realised it could be a problem with the quota for that bundle, so I increased it from 0 to 1. However, the 'Get started' process does not continue and it is still stuck at 50%, with no option to cancel or retry.

How can I cancel the creation process?

When a WorkSpace creation gets stuck, you have a few options to resolve the situation:

First, you can try to stop the WorkSpace creation by navigating to the WorkSpaces console directly (outside of the Quick Start wizard). From there, you should be able to see the WorkSpace in a pending or creating state, and you may have options to terminate or delete it.

If the WorkSpace appears in an error state or is stuck, you can attempt to rebuild or restore it through the WorkSpaces console. This can help resolve creation errors and allow you to start fresh.

Regarding the quota issue you mentioned - you were correct to increase the quota from 0 to 1 for the Graphics.g4dn bundle. However, since you made this change after the creation process had already started, the stuck process likely won't automatically retry. The creation process that began before the quota increase would have failed due to insufficient quota, which is why it's now stuck.

To move forward, I recommend:

  1. Navigate to the WorkSpaces console (not the Quick Start wizard)
  2. Look for the stuck WorkSpace in your WorkSpaces list
  3. Select it and choose to terminate or delete it
  4. Once removed, start a new creation process with the Quick Start or through the standard WorkSpaces console

If you continue to experience issues or cannot find options to cancel the stuck creation, you may need to contact AWS Support for assistance in cleaning up the stuck resource.

  • The Workspace is not listed in the workspaces list (so there is no option to stop it)

I think I found a workaround, I created the workspace manually with the same bundle and the quickstarted progress page started to move again, using that workspace.
