To increase an Amazon WorkSpace storage to 512 GB, you'll need to modify both the root and user volumes. Here's how to do it:
As an administrator:
- Open the WorkSpaces console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/workspaces/v2/home
- In the navigation pane, choose WorkSpaces
- Select the WorkSpace you want to modify
- Choose Actions, then select either "Modify root volume" or "Modify user volume"
- Choose a volume size or select Custom to enter a custom size (up to 2000 GB)
- Save your changes
Important considerations:
- WorkSpace volumes come in specific configurations: [Root(GB), User(GB)]: [80, 10], [80, 50], [80, 100], [175 to 2000, 100 to 2000]
- You must set the Root volume to at least 175 GB to expand the User volume beyond 100 GB
- To achieve 512 GB total storage, you could configure the root volume to 300 GB and the user volume to 212 GB, or any other combination totaling 512 GB
- After the increase is complete, the WorkSpace must be restarted for changes to take effect
- The process might take up to an hour
- During the increase, users cannot change compute type, switch running mode, restart, or rebuild the WorkSpace
- There's a 6-hour waiting period after WorkSpace creation before you can increase disk sizes
- After the initial period, disk size can only be increased once in a 6-hour period
Note that this process is for increasing individual WorkSpace storage, not for scaling the number of WorkSpaces in a pool. If you're looking to adjust the capacity of a WorkSpaces Pool (number of instances), you would use the capacity and scaling features in the Pools section of the WorkSpaces console.
