Restoring file from S3 bucket to on-premise Nutanix cluster takes a long time

0

Hi guys,

I am working on a task that requires me to backup and restore VMs from Nutanix AHV cluster to Amazon S3 bucket. The tool I use is Veeam Backup for Nutanix. There is an Oracle Database VM in Nutanix cluster which storage is 570GB. This VM has a Full VM backup time is 3 hours. However, when I restore this VM from S3 to Nutanix cluster the time for the restore process complete is 29 hours. I see the VM is backed up to S3 Repository is compressed to 235GB. In addition, the internet line from my DC to Singapore is about 50Mbps and the Nutanix is using SSD for storage. With this speed, I calculated that it takes about 16 hours or quite longer to completely restore a 235GB VM.

My question is why does the restore time take up to 29 hours. Is there a way to check for the exact cause? Is there any way to fix it?

In additon, when I check the backup data in S3 console, I see a lot objects which are about 1MB and stored in One Zone IA class. I suspect this is the reason that cause the restore time too long. I want to know why the objects are stored in One Zone IA, not Standard Class. Will it impact the restore time.

I hope you could help me check this problem
