AWS DCV Audio Playback Issue

0

So I'm dealing with an audio issue with AWS DCV where any audio that is played either through Windows or an application does not sound smooth. There is a split second static or cutoff every other second when audio plays. I have tried audio/video sync option. I'm running Windows 11 server with EC2 g4dn with Nvidia driver installed. I'm on the latest June 2025 DCV client and server. Trying to use DCV with EC2 for vMIX. Everything else works but the audio does not sound smooth. Where could I start troubleshooting?

Hi, I'm having the same issue. I spotted one weird thing : The DCV Server installer does NOT install any DCV Speaker audio driver (has it should, according to AWS documentation). Therefore the WM is using Windows audio driver, which may not behave correctly.

Even weirder : The sound with Windows drivers is quite OK on a g4dn.2xLarge, but the problem appears on g4dn.12xLarge instances !!!!

At this point I haven't found a solution.

To troubleshoot your audio quality issues with AWS DCV, I recommend the following approach:

  1. Network Connectivity: The static or cutoff you're experiencing could be related to network issues. High latency, packet loss, or jitter can cause audio disruptions.

  2. Audio Device Configuration: Verify that your audio devices are properly configured on both the client and server sides. If you're using a headset, ensure it meets the minimum requirements and try testing with a different headset or no headset to isolate the issue.

  3. Application Compatibility: Check if any recently installed applications might be interfering with audio playback by: • Taking exclusive control of your microphone/speaker • Consuming excessive network bandwidth that DCV needs

  4. Bandwidth Constraints: If you're on a constrained network, this could cause the intermittent audio issues you're experiencing. Try connecting from a different network environment to see if the problem persists.

  5. Audio Settings: If your audio input device supports noise cancellation, consider adjusting these settings as they might be affecting the audio quality.

  6. Firewall/VPN: If you're using a VPN or have firewall restrictions, investigate whether these might be interfering with the audio stream. By systematically working through these potential causes, you should be able to identify and resolve the audio quality issues you're experiencing with AWS DCV.

  7. If you are using Amazon DCV on Amazon EC2, you can log a support ticket with AWS support with the logs to identify and troubleshoot problems that you might have with Amazon DCV [1].
