Account verification stuck beyond stated window — unable to use services

0

Hello,

My AWS account has been showing "account verification is in progress" for more than four days, which is past the two-day window stated in the AWS documentation and error messages.

When I try to launch CloudShell, I receive the error: "Unable to create the environment. Your account verification is in progress. This may take up to two days for new accounts." I have deleted and retried the environment, but the same error persists.

I have checked my Billing dashboard and there are no processed payments (total number of payments: 0), which makes me think the payment method authorization may not have completed successfully. I have a valid card on file and my bank confirms it can process international online transactions.

I have written to the AWS Support and already created a case but I am not getting any reply event after many follow-ups.

I understand how frustrating it is when account verification takes longer than expected and prevents you from using AWS services. Here's what you should know:

Account verification typically completes within 24 hours, though in some cases it can take longer. The verification process involves validating your payment method and account information. If verification is taking longer than usual, there are a few common reasons this might occur:

Payment Method Issues: Since you mentioned seeing zero processed payments in your Billing dashboard, this suggests the payment authorization may not have completed successfully. Even if your bank confirms the card can process international transactions, AWS needs to successfully authorize a small amount (typically $1 USD) to verify the payment method. Check with your bank to see if any authorization attempts from AWS were declined or if there are any holds or restrictions on your card for online merchants.

What You Can Do:

  1. Verify your payment method is correctly entered in the AWS Billing console, including the correct billing address that matches your bank records
  2. Consider adding an alternative payment method if available
  3. Ensure there are no restrictions on your card for international or online transactions

Account verification issues require manual review by the AWS accounts team, so continuing to work through your support case is the appropriate path to resolution.
