S3 Storage Class Analytics billing per configurations or total objects

0

Hi,

I'd like to find out with S3 Storage Class Analytics, if you have multiple prefix configurations defined for the same objects, if you get billed multiple times or just once for the objects?

So as an example, say I have 2 million objects under the prefix "test/" and 1.5 million objects under the prefix "test/accounts/" and 500 000 objects under the prefix "test/documents/". I create one Storage Class Analytics configuration for the prefix "test/" and one Storage Class Analytics configuration for "test/accounts/".

Would I be charged in total (so for both configurations together) either:

  1. $0.10 (per million) * 2 (million objects) = $0.20 -> as the second configuration is already being monitored in the first configuration OR
  2. ($0.10 * 2) + ($0.10 * 1.5) = $0.35 -> as they are separate configurations so the objects are billed separately

Obviously in this example the difference in value doesn't have much of an impact, but I wanted to simplify it for the example.

Hi, Becky!

When using S3 Storage Class Analytics, if you have multiple prefix configurations defined for the same objects, you will be billed separately for each configuration. In your example, you would be charged separately for the objects under the "test/" prefix and the objects under the "test/accounts/" prefix.

So, the correct calculation would be:

($0.10 per million) * 2 million objects = $0.20 for the "test/" prefix configuration ($0.10 per million) * 1.5 million objects = $0.15 for the "test/accounts/" prefix configuration

In total, you would be billed $0.35 for both configurations together.

Each prefix configuration is evaluated and billed independently. Therefore, even if objects are included in multiple prefix configurations, they will be counted and billed separately for each configuration they match.

It's important to keep this in mind when setting up Storage Class Analytics configurations and consider the impact on costs based on the number of configurations and the objects they cover.

Let me know if it changes. Thnks!
