RedHat Instances on EC2

0

I've recently ran into problems while trying to set up a Red Hat instance on EC2, from what I read online all instances should come with an active subscription (at least that was my understanding of it), but I've started multiple instances from the marketplace and each one of them did not have an active subscription. Is there a step in between that I have missed or did I misunderstood something?

It is true that Red Hat instances on EC2 come with an active subscription, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind when launching these instances.

Firstly, when you launch a Red Hat instance on EC2, you will be prompted to provide a Red Hat Subscription Manager (RHSM) account username and password. This is necessary to enable the instance to access Red Hat's software repositories and to activate its subscription.

If you do not have an RHSM account, you will need to create one on the Red Hat website. Once you have created an account, you can use your Red Hat Customer Portal credentials to log in to the RHSM and obtain your subscription credentials.

Secondly, make sure that you have selected the correct Red Hat AMI (Amazon Machine Image) when launching the instance. Not all Red Hat AMIs on the EC2 Marketplace come with an active subscription. Some may require you to provide your own subscription, while others may be designed for use with other Red Hat products, such as OpenShift.

To ensure that you are using an AMI that comes with an active subscription, you should look for the "Red Hat Enterprise Linux" AMI that is provided by "Red Hat, Inc." in the EC2 Marketplace.

Finally, it's worth noting that Red Hat instances on EC2 have a 30-day trial subscription by default. After this period, you will need to purchase a Red Hat subscription to continue using the instance. If you have any issues activating your Red Hat subscription, you can contact Red Hat Support for assistance.
