Aurora serverless v1 (mysql 5.7) affected by end of support?

0

Got a email reminder about end of support for mysql 5.7, but here it says this:

If you're running Amazon Aurora MySQL version 2 (with MySQL 5.7 compatibility) in an Aurora Serverless version 1 cluster, this doesn't apply to you. If you want to upgrade your Aurora Serverless version 1 clusters to Aurora MySQL version 3, see Upgrade path for Aurora Serverless v1 DB clusters. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/AuroraUserGuide/Aurora.MySQL57.EOL.html

I have an RDS Aurora serverless v1 cluster with mysql 5.7.

Does this mean I'm not affected by this and do not have to take any action? No extra charge after October 31, 2024?

Hi,

Look at final section of the page that you point:

Upgrade path for Aurora Serverless v1 DB clusters

Upgrading between major versions requires more extensive planning and testing than for a
minor version. The process can take substantial time. We want to look at the upgrade as a
three-step process, with activities before the upgrade, for the upgrade, and after the upgrade.

Aurora MySQL version 2 (with MySQL 5.7 compatibility) will continue to receive standard
support for Aurora Serverless v1 clusters.

If you want to upgrade to Amazon Aurora MySQL 3 (with MySQL 8.0 compatibility) and
continue running Aurora Serverless, you can use Amazon Aurora Serverless v2. To understand
the differences between Aurora Serverless v1 and Aurora Serverless v2, see Comparison of Aurora
Serverless v2 and Aurora Serverless v1.

This really confirms that you are not at all affected by this EOL announcement.

Best,

Didier

Hello.

I don't think your Aurora Serverless cluster is affected if the documentation you are referring to follows the instructions.
You can also find affected clusters by following the steps described in the documentation, so I recommend checking here to see if you are affected.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/AuroraUserGuide/Aurora.MySQL57.EOL.html#find-cluster

This question is probably related to extended support, so I think it would be best to open a case with AWS Support under "Account and billing" and ask.
Inquiries under "Account and billing" can be made free of charge.
