QuickSight visual empty-state messages switched from Japanese to English — localization regression in ap-northeast-1?

0

Hi everyone, We are using Amazon QuickSight in ap-northeast-1 and recently noticed that the empty-state messages on visuals have changed from Japanese to English without any configuration changes on our end.

Previously displayed (Japanese):

  • データなし
  • ビジュアルのデータが見つかりません

Now displaying (English):

  • "No data to display"
  • "Data may be filtered out"

This affects both:

  • QuickSight Console — user language is set to 日本語
  • Embedded dashboards — locale set to ja-JP, iframe html lang="ja-JP"

Note: All other UI text (menus, titles, filters) still displays correctly in Japanese. Only the visual empty-state messages are in English.

My questions: Is this a known localization regression after a recent QuickSight UI update? Is there any way to restore the Japanese empty-state messages (データなし)? If this cannot be customized, when will the Japanese translation be restored? Any help or workaround would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Amazon QuickSight is designed as a global product with localization support for 10 major languages, including Japanese. The application is available across multiple AWS Regions, including Asia Pacific (Tokyo), which corresponds to ap-northeast-1.

Regarding the empty-state messages you're seeing, QuickSight does have a feature for displaying messages on visuals under specific conditions, such as when a visual returns no data. These messages are part of the visual configuration and are intended to provide feedback to users when data is unavailable or filtered out.

For your specific situation where empty-state messages have switched from Japanese to English despite your language settings being configured correctly, I recommend the following steps:

  1. Verify your QuickSight session settings: Ensure that your user profile language preference in the QuickSight console is still set to Japanese. Sometimes session settings can revert after updates.

  2. Check your embedded dashboard configuration: For embedded dashboards, confirm that the locale parameter is being passed correctly in your embedding code and that it's set to 'ja-JP'.

  3. Clear browser cache and refresh: Browser caching can sometimes cause display issues with localized content. Try clearing your browser cache and reloading the dashboard.

  4. Test with a direct dashboard link: If you're accessing dashboards from the dashboards list, try opening them through the direct dashboard link instead, as this can sometimes resolve session-related display issues.

If these steps don't resolve the issue and the Japanese translations for empty-state messages remain in English across all your dashboards and users, I recommend opening a case in the AWS Support Center to report this potential localization regression. When you do so, include details about your QuickSight region, the specific visuals affected, your language configuration settings, and screenshots showing the English messages appearing despite Japanese locale settings. This will help the QuickSight team investigate whether this is a known issue following a recent update and provide you with a timeline for resolution if it's a regression that needs to be addressed.
