Serverless LayerVersion deployments and version manangment

I have a layer deployed which is used by multiple lambda function, when I'm deploying a new version the old version is getting deleted and all the lambda functions are failing due to this. Is there a way to keep the old version of a layer when deploying the new or update the same version of the layer?
