Region:

  • us-west-2

Account:

  • Personal AWS account
  • About 2 years old
  • Basic Support plan

Verified:

  • list-foundation-models returns anthropic.claude-sonnet-5
  • get-foundation-model-availability: agreementAvailability = AVAILABLE authorizationStatus = AUTHORIZED entitlementAvailability = AVAILABLE regionAvailability = AVAILABLE

Observed behavior:

  • Claude Sonnet 5: AccessDeniedException anthropic.claude-sonnet-5 is not available for this account.

  • Amazon Nova Lite: ThrottlingException Too many tokens per day

The account has not previously used Amazon Bedrock for inference.

Is this likely to be an account entitlement/quota issue, or is there another configuration I should verify?

Hello.

Quotas may be set to low levels for new AWS accounts, accounts using Bedrock for the first time, or accounts with limited usage history.
I encountered the same error as you when trying to run "claude-sonnet-5" on my personal AWS account.
However, it ran successfully on my company's AWS account, which suggests that accounts with higher usage history may have higher quotas set.
I recommend contacting AWS Support, as discussed in the re:Post thread below.
