Single-AZ 1 refers to the first generation of FSx for Windows, while Single-AZ 2 represents the second generation. The key difference is that Single-AZ 2 supports both SSD and HDD storage types, whereas Single-AZ 1 only supports SSD. This provides an opportunity for cost optimization, particularly when selecting between SSD and HDD storage options based on your performance needs and budget.
You can find detailed pricing information in the FSx pricing table: FSx for Windows Pricing. Additionally, the official FSx documentation provides a comparison between Single-AZ 1 and Single-AZ 2, which can be found here: FSx High Availability and Multi-AZ.
Although the AWS Pricing Calculator doesn't explicitly label Single-AZ 2, it does support it. When selecting the Single-AZ deployment type, you'll notice both SSD and HDD options. Choosing HDD automatically places you in the Single-AZ 2 deployment, as HDD is only available in this configuration. In the AWS Management Console, Single-AZ 1 allows for SSD only, while Single-AZ 2 provides the flexibility to choose either SSD or HDD. Using HDD can offer significant savings, reducing storage and deduplication costs by approximately 90%.
Hello,
Single-AZ 2 is the second generation of FSx for Windows, offering support for both SSD and HDD storage types, whereas Single-AZ 1 only supports SSD. You can choose between SSD and HDD depending on your performance and cost needs. If you select HDD in the AWS Management Console, you're automatically using Single-AZ 2. For pricing, SSD and HDD options are shown in the FSx pricing table, though the AWS Calculator doesn’t explicitly label Single-AZ 2.
