How long so we have to upgrade?

0

We have received a notification that Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL is deprecating major version 10 and we need to up grade.

This presents some problems for us and I would like to know how long we have until the issue of deprecating version 10 will affect our database? We need as long as possible. What is possible?

Hello,

Thank you again for your question and I believe the answer you are asking is in the third reference that I provided earlier which mentions as follows:

" RDS will upgrade your PostgreSQL 10 databases to PostgreSQL 14 during a scheduled maintenance window between April 17, 2023 00:00:01 UTC and July 18, 2023 00:00:01 UTC. On July 18, 2023 00:00:01 AM UTC, any PostgreSQL 10 databases that remain will be force upgraded to version 14 regardless of instances’ scheduled maintenance window."

So, starting February 14th, even if you wont be able to create new RDS with POSTgreSQL, you will still be able to keep using your database. RDS will upgrade your PostgreSQL 10 databases to PostgreSQL 14 during a scheduled maintenance window between April 17, 2023 00:00:01 UTC and July 18, 2023 00:00:01 UTC. So, in your specific case, our recommendation is to fix the problem you have currently and start the upgrade. RDS will upgrade your PostgreSQL version during a scheduled maintenance window. So, you will know ahead of time when that will happen. If you donot want that maintenance to happen during that time, then you can select to adjust that maintenance window. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/UserGuide/USER_UpgradeDBInstance.Maintenance.html#AdjustingTheMaintenanceWindow

We donot have visibility to any other information than what is publicly available in our docs.

I hope this helps. If you need further info, let me know in the comments; otherwise I'd appreciate if you mark my answer as "accepted".

Kind regards, Rochak from AWS

Thank you for this but can you be more exact? We know it will take some time to fix a problem we have before we can upgrade.

Can you indicate how long it would be before not upgrading would affect the operation of our site? Two weeks? Six weeks? Eight weeks? Any indication would be very useful.

Thank you.
